Venus Fly Trap 20 Seeds

By admin

Nature provides this remarkable plant with “traps” to lure and capture it’s food. The traps are covered inside by tiny hairs and a sticky sweet smelling substance attractive to insects. When an insect touches the trigger hair, the trap is activated and closes around it’s victim. After digestion of it’s meal (whick takes several days), the trap will open again for a new catch.
PLANTING AND CARE:
Keep moist at all times, rainwater or distilled water are preferred. Plants should not be fertilized (so therefore should be separated from your other plants). The insects it catches provide natural nourishment. A pinch of hamburg can occasionally be fed to the plant. Select a sunny window for your Venus Flytrap. In replanting only use sphagnum! Peat moss will do in a pinch. Put a plastic saucer underneath the plant to hold water and keep it’s humidity proper but do not stand in a dish of water.

Proper name: Dionaea muscipula

5 Stars Patience pays off
[...]These types of plants (Dionaea, Sarracenia) need to be put in the cold for a couple weeks before they will sprout. They are not your common house plant and are more difficult to upkeep. They will need constant care at first in order to make sure that fungi does not attack the seed or seedling. If you are looking for a quick grow then this is not the plant for you. For the first year the Venus fly trap will not get any ‘mouths’ larger then 2mm.

Great plants but not for every day person. For these plants research is your best friend!

2 Stars doesn’t grow big
The plant seems to be hardy but it does not grow very big. I bought a plant for my son from another vendor. It’s been the same size for 6 months. It also needs lot of moisture.

1 Star Dionaea take 3-5 years to mature and are not easy from seed.
DO YOUR RESEARCH before you attempt to grow this plant, and don’t do it from seeds as a beginner. Venus Fly Traps are very difficult for newbies to grow from seed and they take 3-5 years to mature. For a few dollars more you can buy a mature plant that won’t take a magnifying glass to see for the first 18 months, and which will be able to make its own seeds for you.
